Traveling With Omvoh
Storing Omvoh for Travel
Store Omvoh devices at 36°F to 46°F when traveling. Do not freeze Omvoh devices and if the device was frozen, do not use it.1,2
Protect Omvoh devices from light by storing them in the original carton (or any container that will protect them from all types of light, eg, a brown paper bag or covered with a dish towel) until the patient is ready to use them.1,2
Do not shake Omvoh. General motions that may occur during typical travel experiences are not a concern.1,2
If needed, Omvoh devices can be intentionally stored at room temperature (up to 86°F) for up to 14 days. Patients may choose to use this 14-day room temperature storage allowance while traveling. Once a patient decides to start using the 14-day allowance, Omvoh must not be returned to the refrigerator/refrigeration.1,2
Do not use Omvoh devices if they were exposed to temperatures above 86°F or if Omvoh devices were stored at room temperature for longer than 14 days.1
Where to Pack Omvoh
It is recommended that patients keep Omvoh devices with them while traveling, such as in their carry-on luggage. Temperatures in luggage-hold areas, where checked-in luggage is usually stored, or car trunks may be too cold or too hot for Omvoh.2
Travel Coolers
Patients may decide to purchase a cooler to keep their Omvoh devices at 36°F to 46°F when traveling.2
Eli Lilly and Company does not test, market, or sell these products for Omvoh, so we are not able to recommend a specific type of travel storage cooler.2
If one of these travel storage coolers is used, it is important to remember that the Omvoh device should not touch ice or frozen gel packs as this may lead the device to freeze.2
Airport Travel
Bringing Omvoh Through TSA Security
A special letter from the patient's health care prescriber should not be needed.2
Most airlines allow medical devices with needles on board the plane as long as the needles are not exposed (eg, unused, capped Omvoh pens).2
The Omvoh prescription label should be kept with the medicine. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent may ask for this label to verify that the Omvoh devices and any associated supplies belong to the patient.2
When the patient reaches the security checkpoint, tell the TSA agent that the patient is carrying an injectable prescription medication. Separate the Omvoh devices and any other medical supplies to be used with your Omvoh devices from your other belongings and proceed as directed by the TSA agent.2
The short period of time Omvoh devices are exposed to light during an inspection will not harm the medicine. Make sure to return Omvoh devices to their light-protective container once the security screening is completed.2
X-ray Screenings
X-rays are not known to affect the medicine in the Omvoh devices.2
Lilly has not specifically completed x-ray studies for Omvoh. However, previously completed studies for other similar injectable Lilly medicines have confirmed that the x-rays from airport security scanners do not harm these types of medicines.2
Altitude Changes
Changes in altitude when traveling do not impact Omvoh.2
Additional Information
Airlines, transportation companies, and other countries may have additional rules and restrictions. Patients should check with their airline or transportation company for more information. If traveling internationally, patients should also check with the authorities in the countries they are visiting.2
Additionally, security regulations continuously change, it is recommended that patients contact TSA at 1-855-787-2227 for the latest guidance in traveling with medicine and needles or visit the TSA website at https://www.tsa.gov.2
