This information is provided in response to your request. Resources may contain information about doses, uses, formulations and populations different from product labeling. See Prescribing Information above, if applicable.
Can the Zepbound® (tirzepatide) dose be split into smaller doses when using the KwikPen®?
The Zepbound KwikPen contains 4 fixed doses; one 0.6 mL dose is taken weekly. Per the instructions for use, the KwikPen in-use period is 30 days after first use. Therefore, it is not recommended to split into smaller doses.
See important safety information, including boxed warning, in the attached prescribing information.
Can the Dose be Split With Zepbound KwikPen?
The Zepbound KwikPen is a disposable multidose single-patient-use prefilled pen. The KwikPen contains 4 fixed doses, one dose taken weekly. Inject 0.6 mL in a single weekly injection, under the skin (subcutaneously).1
The Zepbound KwikPen Instructions for Use do not provide instructions for dialing a dose less than the full fixed dose, and therefore this is not recommended. When injecting Zepbound using Kwikpen, do not count clicks as you select the dose.1
After 4 doses, throw away (discard) the KwikPen, including the unused medication.1
Do not transfer Zepbound from your KwikPen into a syringe.1
Throw away the Zepbound KwikPen 30 days after first use even though the KwikPen has medication left in it.1
Please follow the approved Instructions for Use for proper storage, handling, and administration of the Zepbound KwikPen.
Why Should the Zepbound KwikPen be Discarded 30 Days After First Use?
The in-use period testing ensures that during the period of time once the multi-dose container is opened or punctured by a needle, the medicine stays good and meets certain criteria of quality.2
Testing of the Zepbound KwikPen was sufficient to support an in-use period of 30 days.1
Eli Lilly and Company cannot provide treatment recommendations for the use of Zepbound KwikPen beyond the 30-days in-use period.
