How should VERZENIO® (abemaciclib) tablets be stored?

Abemaciclib should be stored at 68° to 77°F (20°-25°C); excursions permitted to 59° to 86°F (15°-30°C).

Dosage Form

The abemaciclib dosage form is available in 50 mg, 100 mg, 150 mg, and 200 mg tablets and in dose pack configurations as shown in Abemaciclib Dose Pack Configurations.1

Packaging

The packaging for the different strengths of abemaciclib tablets have the exact same layout but each strength is color coded. Timing Of Administration

  • Patients should take the doses of abemaciclib at approximately the same times every day.2
  • If a patient vomits or misses a dose of abemaciclib, the patient should be instructed to take the next dose at its scheduled time.2

Administration

  • Abemaciclib tablets should be swallowed whole (patients should not chew crush, or split tablets before swallowing).2
  • No tablet should be ingested if it is broken, cracked, or otherwise not intact.2

Storage and Handling

  • Store tablets in the original blister packaging as marketed by Eli Lilly and Company at 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C); excursions permitted to 59°F to 86°F (15°C to 30°C).1 
  • Abemaciclib tablets do not require any special storage conditions.1 
  • Protect the medicine from extreme conditions such as high humidity and unsafe temperatures etc.1
  • Removing tablets from the original blister pack they are sold in is not recommended prior to administration.1
  • The tablets may be harmful to family members if accidentally ingested. The tablets are sold in child-resistant packaging designed and tested to keep them safe and stable until they are used or expired.1
  • Abemaciclib tablets are not impacted by light or oxygen exposure over a short period (e.g. 30 days). However, keeping the tablets in their original blister packaging is recommended until the product is either used or expired. Doing so will protect the tablets and keep them stable until they expire.1

Accidental storage below 34°F or above 86°F  

Eli Lilly and Company can do a product quality assessment if the medicine has been accidentally stored outside the recommended storage and handling conditions.1

Please contact Eli Lilly and Company if abemaciclib tablets were exposed to temperatures below 34°F or above 86°F (below 1°C or above 30°C) for any period. Lilly can perform a quality evaluation to determine if the tablets are still acceptable to use.1
