What are the alternate injection sites for Forteo® (teriparatide injection)?
Forteo should be administered by subcutaneous injection in the thigh or abdomen.
Administration of Teriparatide
Subcutaneous Injection
Teriparatide should be administered once daily by subcutaneous injection in the thigh or abdomen.1
In clinical trials, teriparatide was injected subcutaneously into the patient’s thigh or abdominal wall.1
The upper arm is an acceptable area for subcutaneous injection; however, there are no data available on the injection of teriparatide at this site.2
Intravenous or Intramuscular Injection
Teriparatide is not approved for intravenous or intramuscular use.1
