Lifestyle Recommendations

In the orforglipron weight management studies, ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2, participants received lifestyle management counseling, including recommendations on diet and physical activity with the goal of achieving weight reduction. No specific range of calorie deficit was specified in the ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 study protocols.1,2

Meals and Dietary Restrictions

During the studies, individualized counseling on a healthy diet was provided by a dietitian, nutritionist, or equivalent qualified designee. The goal was to promote healthier food choices and portion control through mindful eating. Counseling included guidance on nutrient-dense food and beverage choices tailored to personal preferences, cultural traditions, and budgetary considerations. Key principles included

  • eating smaller, more frequent meals/snacks every 3 to 4 hours

  • avoiding skipped meals

  • structuring meals with approximately ½ plate of fruits/vegetables, ¼ plate of whole grains, and ¼ plate of protein

  • including fiber-rich foods, and

  • limiting foods high in solid fats, added sugar, and salt.1,2

During the studies, medical staff were advised to consider monitoring participants’ nutritional and hydration status, particularly for those with significantly reduced caloric intake (eg, below 800-1200 kcal), to identify early signs of poor intake or dehydration and take preventive actions to reduce the risk of complications.1,3

Physical Activity

Participants were advised to achieve a healthy physical activity level of at least 150 minutes per week, as tolerated. Adherence to physical activity goals was assessed at each study visit. To encourage adherence, participants were recommended to complete a 3-day diet and physical activity log prior to each counseling visit.1-3
