Cymbalta® (duloxetine): Ingredients of animal origin

The Cymbalta capsules contain one ingredient that comes from an animal source. This is the gelatin, it comes from bovine material (cows).

Composition

The active ingredient is duloxetine.1

  • One capsule contains either 30 mg or 60 mg of duloxetine (as hydrochloride).

The excipients of the capsule contents are:1 

  • Hypromellose
  • Hypromellose acetate succinate
  • Sucrose
  • Sugar spheres
  • Talc
  • Titanium dioxide (E171)
  • Triethyl citrate

The excipients of the Cymbalta 30 mg capsule shell are:1 

  • Gelatin
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate
  • Titanium dioxide (E171)
  • Indigo carmine (E132)
  • Edible green ink

Edible green ink contains:

  • Black iron oxide - synthetic (E172)
  • Yellow iron oxide - synthetic (E172)
  • Propylene glycol
  • Shellac

The excipients of the In Cymbalta 60 mg capsule shell are:1 

  • Gelatin
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate
  • Titanium dioxide (E171)
  • Indigo carmine (E132)
  • Yellow iron oxide (E172)
  • Edible white ink

Edible white ink contains:

  • Titanium dioxide (E171)
  • Propylene glycol
  • Shellac
  • Povidone

Cymbalta is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.1
