After injection, there may be a drop of insulin at the needle tip. This is normal and does not affect the dose.1

When should the patient not use the pen?

The patient should not use the pen if any of the parts of the pen appear broken or damaged.1

Please contact the Lilly affiliate, if

  • insulin continues to leak (more than 1 drop), or
  • the insulin appears anywhere else other than at the tip of the needle.

How can the patient prevent insulin from leaking continuously from the needle?

Steps from the instructions for use that help prevent continuously leaking from the needle provides handling information that can help prevent leaking insulin from the needle.

Steps from the instructions for use that help prevent continuously leaking from the needle1

Do not store the pen with the needle attached to prevent leaking, blocking the needle, and air from entering the pen.

Prime before each injection. Priming the pen means removing the air from the needle and cartridge that may collect during normal use and ensures that the pen is working correctly.

After pushing the dose knob all the way in, continue to hold the dose Knob in and slowly count to 5 before removing the needle.

Store the pen in use at room temperature and below 30°C.

After injection, check the number in the dose window:

  • If “0” is displayed in the dose window, the full amount dialed has been injected.
  • If “0” is not seen in the dose window, please refer to the user manual for next steps.
