Prefilled insulin pens (KwikPen®)
This information is intended for UK registered healthcare professionals only in response to your search for information. For current information for all Lilly products, including Summaries of Product Characteristics, Patient Information Leaflets and Instructions for Use, please visit: www.medicines.org.uk (England, Scotland, Wales) or www.emcmedicines.com/en-GB/northernireland/ (Northern Ireland).
Does the needle of the Lilly insulin Kwikpen® normally leak insulin?
A drop of insulin at the needle tip when attaching the needle, priming the pen or after an injection is normal. It is not normal for insulin to continue to leak from the needle or any other part of the pen.
Does one drop of insulin at the needle tip after an injection affect the dose?
After injection, there may be a drop of insulin at the needle tip. This is normal and does not affect the dose.1
When should the patient not use the pen?
The patient should not use the pen if any of the parts of the pen appear broken or damaged.1
Please contact the Lilly affiliate, if
- insulin continues to leak (more than 1 drop), or
- the insulin appears anywhere else other than at the tip of the needle.
How can the patient prevent insulin from leaking continuously from the needle?
Do not store the pen with the needle attached to prevent leaking, blocking the needle, and air from entering the pen. |
|
Prime before each injection. Priming the pen means removing the air from the needle and cartridge that may collect during normal use and ensures that the pen is working correctly. |
|
After pushing the dose knob all the way in, continue to hold the dose Knob in and slowly count to 5 before removing the needle. |
|
Store the pen in use at room temperature and below 30°C. |
|
After injection, check the number in the dose window:
