How should Trulicity® (dulaglutide) be stored during transport and travel?

Store dulaglutide at 2 - 8°C when transporting or travelling, whenever possible. For patients only, the pen may be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to a total of 14 days. During air-travel, place the pen in the carry-on baggage.

Storage conditions during transport or travel

  • Store in a refrigerator (2 ºC – 8 ºC).
  • Do not freeze.
  • Store in the original package to protect from light.1

For patients only: When refrigeration is not possible, the prefilled-pen can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to a total of 14 days.2

This allowable 14-day room temperature exposure may be one single 14-day exposure, or it can be broken up into multiple exposures. There is not a limit to the number room temperature exposures as long as the total time does not exceed 14 days (336 hours).3

Information for health care professionals (HCPs), pharmacies and wholesalers transporting dulaglutide 

During shipping and storing by wholesalers, HCPs and pharmacies, dulaglutide must be stored at temperatures between 2 - 8°C.3

Wholesalers, HCPs and pharmacies (including mail order companies) cannot use any part of the 14-day allowable room temperature exposure.3

Using Cooler Bags

Eli Lilly and Company does not test, market or sell coolers to keep dulaglutide cold for long periods of time, so we cannot recommend any of them.3

If a travel storage cooler is used, it is important to remember, that dulaglutide should not touch ice or frozen gel packs.3

Air travel

When travelling by airplane,

  • place the dulaglutide prefilled-pen in the carry-on baggage to carry it onto the airplane.3
    • In checked luggage, temperatures may be too cold or too hot for dulaglutide.3
  • X-rays at airport security screening are not known to affect dulaglutide.3
  • Dulaglutide is enclosed in a glass syringe, and dulaglutide will not be affected by any changes in air pressure.3

Airlines and other countries may have additional rules and restrictions. The airline should be able to provide more information.

Traveling internationally

Patients traveling internationally need to check with the authorities in the country they plan to visit (embassy). This particularly applies to travel outside European Union.
